DEJONG is proud to announce that Gerald Simmons-de Jong, founder and managing partner of DEJONG, has been appointed as a deputy member of the Netherlands Institute for Human Rights for Caribbean Netherlands (in Dutch: College voor de Rechten van de Mens).
The appointment is for a period of three years and relates to the Institute’s work in Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba.
The Netherlands Institute for Human Rights is the national independent body responsible for monitoring, promoting and protecting human rights in the Netherlands, including Caribbean Netherlands. Gerald’s appointment reflects his long-standing involvement in law, governance, mediation and access to justice in the Dutch Caribbean. In addition to his role at DEJONG, he is an active member of the Caribbean Mediators Association and previously served as a deputy judge at the Joint Court of Justice of Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten and of Bonaire, St. Eustatius and Saba. He also previously worked as a legal and governance advisor for the Public Entity Saba, where he was involved in matters relating to the introduction of equal treatment legislation in Caribbean Netherlands.
DEJONG congratulates Gerald on this meaningful appointment and wishes him every success in this important role.
