DEJONG office welcomes Amanda Clarke and Doreen Alao! Doreen is part of the job shadowing program of the Saba Comprehensive School, and is shadowing us at the office for two days.
During her first day at our office, Doreen sat in on client meetings, brainstormed on legal cases together with Amanda and Gerald, tomorrow she is even going to witness a morning in court at our brand new courthouse.
Amanda has been with DEJONG already for a bit longer. She is finishing her associates degree, as she is in her last year, and for which Gerald has been her on-island teacher for the CAPE Law program. Being both her teacher for her on CAPE Law and now also her intern supervisor has been a very interesting journey for Gerald as well, as all the books and exams are in the British Caribbean legal system.
''It is very interesting to see where our legal systems differ and where they are the same, while the islands geographically, historically, and culturally have a lot more in common (St. Kitts is just around the corner from Saba, and on a clear day we can literally see its beautiful mountainous landscape from here).'' Said Gerald
At DEJONG law office Amanda interns on Thursdays and Fridays where she mostly helps coordinate all the different land issues on Saba, St. Eustatius and St. Maarten. ''I am so incredibly impressed with these two ladies. The future is bright'' said Gerald
